Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss made a big splash at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park during The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson event. The football legend participated with nearly 300 students from local nonprofit organizations who learned all about important water competency and safety skills.
Moss, an avid fisherman and boater himself, stressed the need for kids to learn how to swim. “I just love being a part of something like this, and most of all helping the kids really understand the importance of safety on the water,” said Moss.
The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is an annual event at various locations worldwide that strives to serve as a platform to help local aquatic facilities engage with their surrounding youth communities. With hundreds of students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida and Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida taking part in the event at Typhoon Lagoon, it was the largest lesson site in Florida.
Upon arrival to the watery tropical paradise of Typhoon Lagoon, the participating students were welcomed by beach-ready Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Following their swim lessons, the students were then invited to get “Wild About Safety” with our Disney VoluntEARS, while hanging out with a Disney favorite– Stitch and listening to energetic music by the surf pools.
This year’s event was made even more special as a few of our Disney Resort hotels joined in the fun, hosting lessons with students from ELEVATE Orlando. With a bit of distinctly Disney magic, our hope is to inspire this next generation of change makers through developmental opportunities just like this one and help make a lasting impact and difference in the lives of children and families across Central Florida.
Following the lesson, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and ELEVATE Orlando got to spend the rest of the day soaking up the sun at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. And what better way to put their fresh new swimming skills to work than by experiencing all of the magic and watery attractions found in this tropical paradise?
