National Geographic celebrated Earth Month by highlighting people, places and projects that inspire us all to “Explore and Restore” the planet.
Along with National Geographic, Disney Parks has spread that message as well with unique activations and opportunities. From stage cooking demonstrations to photo walls and National Geographic magazines, there were experiences for all guests to enjoy.
On April 23, Ginger Zee, Ben Colonomos and their sons visited Disney California Adventure park to participate in a Stage Demo at Hollywood Backlot Stage to share their experiences “Branching Out.”
“Branching Out: A Nat Geo Earth Day Adventure” series, produced by ABC Localish, follows Ginger, Ben and their family on a road trip of a lifetime. Skipping traditional pit stops and tourist destinations, the group set out to meet National Geographic Explorers to learn about sustainable solutions that will help ensure a better future for our planet.
At the Disney California Adventure park event, Ginger and Ben shared their favorite stories from the road trip and then Chef Mo joined them on stage to cook up a recipe from Apricot Lane Farm. The farm was featured in a special from National Geographic – “The Biggest Little Farm: The Return” now streaming on Disney+. The new special is based on the 2018 award-winning feature documentary film that tells the story of John and Molly Chester, who abandon their urban life in Los Angeles to live on a barren farm to grow delicious food in harmony with nature in Ventura County. The new special follows the farmers’ 10-year tireless journey as they transform the land into a magical working farm and document the whole process in this heartwarming special.
On April 24, Chef Toby and his daughter joined in on the fun to lead the demonstration and taught guests small actions they can take in their homes to live more sustainably.
Additional National Geographic activations were sprinkled throughout Disney California Adventure park to inspire guests to celebrate Earth Day on April 22. There was a National Geographic 3D chalk art mural, a National Geographic Magazine photo wall, and a Nat Geo iconic yellow border installation available April 18 through April 26 for guests to take photos with.
Over at Walt Disney World Resort, National Geographic invited guests to become a cover star by posing in front of the iconic yellow border at the entrance of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Available now through May 15.
